Summary

In April, IS/LAND performance collective brings their innovative approach to storytelling into the the A2AC Main Gallery. Through a series of movement and sound-based performances titled "Tetra", IS/LAND pays homage to the sacred role of paper in Asian cultural traditions.

IS/LAND is an interdisciplinary Performance Collaborative composed of AAPIA artists and collaborators. Their performances center movement, storytelling, and aesthetics as processes to explore the extensive and diverse landscape of AAPIA lived experience, including an increased focus on optimizing audience engagement through reflection and dialogue.

Tetra brings together movers J. Amber Kao, S. Jean Lee, and Olivia Lemmenes and sound designer Chien-An Yuan. Tetra invites the audience to attend and bear witness to a ceremony of transformation and transcendence. Forming rolls of colorful Hanji mulberry paper into shapes and pathways of wisdom, knowledge, and healing, the movement of the dancers offer improvised ‘rituals’ as communal gestures of healing and transmutation, ultimately creating a restorative healing space for both the audience and performers.

The performances are around 45-minutes with no intermission.

Performances are best for ages 10 years and older. A2AC encourages caregivers to use their best judgment with concern to their child's attention.

The cost of tickets furthers the A2AC's ability to bring innovative, multidisciplinary Arts programming to its galleries and the Ann Arbor community.

IS/LAND’s residency is partially funded by the MICHIGAN ARTS AND CULTURE COUNCIL and the MICHIGAN HUMANITIES COUNCIL.
Event Registration is closed.
